He was probably with his brother. There was a whole scene where his brother was like "Wtf. I didn't want you to kill Blue Hawk. You're so selfish. Everything is always about you" (basically) and his brother fell out of his wheelchair or whatever. So he was dealing with that would be my guess.

I just watched all three seasons this week (and finished the last episode 10 minutes ago).

I get Ryan is an impressionable kid and wants his family, but him siding with Homelander and then having that evil smirk at the end (after Homelander zapped that Starlight stans head off) just spits in the face of his mum.
