I shouldn't say I hope it happens to them, but I will say I wouldn't be feeling sad if it did happen.

It would be grim yet comical to see a news article that one of these stupid vehicle tampering activists got themselves brutally maimed or fatally capped by angry citizens of Chicago or NYC defending their property.

What this group is attempting to do still counts as tampering with a stranger's vehicle. It's vandalism with the additional appearance of attempted sabotage (owner does not immediately know what the vandal's intent is or what exactly has been done to the vehicle). That usually invites a panicked and often upset response from US citizens. Even Americans who are environmentalists themselves could still react violently, even become homicidal, to discovering their vehicle has been vandalized. So could their peers and family. Hell, an angry mob could form.

These idiot activists are setting themselves to get beat or shot without having to involve local authorities at all. And they leave a calling card...

If you want to teach people to save the world, that's fine. But this is an example of how to bury your own cause, not promote it.
