Such is the life with any customer service work here in the US. The only person who isn't paid to do so is the owner of the company, who, if anything, pays money into not being nice at all. It's funny. When I was a kid working in the grocery store, we had to be friendly and greet customers within 10 feet of us. I always took advantage of the opportunity. It always pissed me off when the rare person ignored me. I used to let adverse social interactions really bother me. I finally learned to let that shit go and just ignore it.
