He expected to beat trainers that were using the same team and training each of them from day 1. His Krabby evolved DURING a match. He was using a level 28 'mon against level 55+ opponents. Ash was trash. Ash had a few impressive moments throughout S1 but most of the season is him bumbling around showing what a dumbass he is, and how uneducated he is on Pokemon. The fact that he didn't bring those Pokemon in and really train them prior to the League battles just shows how naive he was.
