DC can't let anything that isn't grim and edgy exist -- even if it's from an earlier continuity that should have no bearing on the present. If Adam West hadn't won people's hearts in the years leading up to his passing, I'm sure Batman '66 would be brought back and killed off in some disrespectful manner.
