They want a fast pass to their own "Spiderman" they can build a franchise around but they don't have it. And they're too cowardly to make a straight up pvillain movie. Honestly, this shit could almost work if they just...didn't try to make these straight up origin movies. We already know this shit isn't MCU canon so they don't need to worry about fucking up the continuity of the Watts movies. They could just allude to a shared history with Spider-Man (vaguely so they can work out the details later and/or tie them in with The Amazing movies if necessary) and have their movies be the start of these villains going off and doing their own thing. As of now, you have mediocre movies about a bunch of C-list villains (obv doesn't apply to Venom) that have no ties to Spider-Man and are too heroic to be their own Sinister Six.
