Yup. It's just the way the industry works

Gasoline is shipped to the stations but it's not paid for straight away. When you're at the pump paying $4.99 a gallon it cost the owners is the gas station basically $4.55 a gallon, they make their 4 cents and send the rest to the oil company

This is done so the price can change throughout the day

So if the cost to the company was $5.69 a gallon at that moment, they literally lost $5 a gallon and had to pay the oil company who doesn't give a fuck

Also don't know if anyone can be held accountable for the losses. Maybe the state licensing board that regulates gas pumps? The company that does the software for the pumps?
