So if someone scans her, she scans them. Red claimed that he is Girafarig, Town Hider, and that the very nature of his role contradicts Lea's or at least could cause an unresolvable loop. Red chooses a person to hide behind, and if he was supposed to die, the other person dies instead. I.e., if Red hides behind Lea, then Lea mirrors and hides behind Red.
