As a new player you probably won't be going against the 2000+ hour nerds who've been playing six years, since there is a hidden matchmaking rating system. You likely won't need to play "sweaty" and camp hooks or tunnel survivors out of the game. Just play normally and try not to care about winning/losing.

As for killers, nurse is above and beyond the best killer in the game, though she requires a ton of practice to get good with. She has a short range teleport that allows her to completely bypass windows and pallets, the survivors main tools for escaping chases. Missing a blink (teleport attack) is extremely punishing since there is a huge recovery animation, but a good nurse is nigh unbeatable.

Wraith is the stealthiest killer and the only one available in the base game. Other stealth based killers are michael myers, pig, ghost face, and onryo, but they are all licensed ip's and can only be bought with real-money as opposed to currency earned in game.
