You definitely want to wrap up all the sidequests you can before Disc 4 because Time Compression suuuuuucks. Get everything done before hand and go straight to Ultimecia's Castle after completing Lunatic Pandora. Once you get to the final area, it's easier to just slap No Encounters on your B team and keep all your good gear / GFs attached to your main team (it really irritated me that both FF 7 and FF 8 pulled half-assed attempts at replicating FF 6's multi-party segments at the 11th hour).

The only exception is that you can skip the entire Card Queen sidequest and just challenge her directly for her rare cards if you find her in Disc 4.
