So the points and power levels are two different ways to play the game.

Power level is easier and more straight forward. It can lead to some imbalance though as you get upgrades and gear easier/free. Some armies can become alot more powerful that way, where in Matched play there are limits on gear/upgrades.

Points are used for Matched Play. Which is the real deal and how most people play. 1000 points, 1500 points and 2000 points are the usual levels people play at.

If a model costs 13 points then they are each that many. Same goes for gear. If a gun costs 5 points then every model that has that adds 5 points. Example from above. Your necron warrior is 13 points. You give that model an upgraded/nonstock gun for 5 points then they are now 18 points for that model.

Invulnerable saves are very very good and are separate from your normal one. Usually shown in writing as ++ symbol. Inv saves help you against Armor penetration or AP for short. Your normal save will get degraded if you go up against a good gun or weapon with good AP. But if you have an inv save then you still have a chance of saving a wound. So you use your normal armor save first (easier to modify and sometimes its lower which you want) but if your inv is better you use that.

Hope this helps!
