The Midwest has a weird thing where families that are originally from the south desperately hold onto that southern heritage and express it with flags. It's the exact thing they accuse immigrants of doing, except the flag they use to express it is traitorous. I gave up defending that flag long ago as it's just not worth it. But it always confuses me that symbols can change to be more negative but never the other way away around. Funny side story. I actually as a white man got a black man to start hitting on me cause of a pic of me standing in front of a rebel flag. He had a thing for country boys or rednecks We after all these years are talking now. I didn't have a problem with him back then but I was in a relationship already with a Hispanic guy and those two really didnt like each other.
