It's a comedic slice-of-life/action series about the world's best spy who suddenly needs to create a family to infiltrate his next target. It's set around a stand in for divided Germany, which adds some gravitas to the characters' stories. The spy, codename Twilight, going by Loid Forger, adopts an orphan, Anya, who turns out to have mind reading powers. Later he runs into a woman named Yor, who turns out to be an assassin, and they convince each other to use the other as a cover. Of course, no one knows each others' secret.

It's difficult to explain, but the characters are super cute, the jokes are hilarious, and the action is pretty good and fantastically animated. Since Anya is an orphan, she does everything she can to get her adopted parents to love her. The dichotomy between what the characters are thinking (which Anya knows) and how they act creates funny moments that often have a hint of real-life truth to them.

If you're going to watch any anime this year, watch this. You only need one episode to draw you in.
