Not really. Don't get me wrong, it was absolutely not appropriate to do and he is in the wrong. But like, people are blowing this up to make Will Smith look like an unhinged lunatic. When ultimately he is a dude who got mad someone said something crass about his wife and threw a punch. It's not okay, but it's hardly some grand indictment of his character. If this happened in a bar and it wasn't Chris Rock people would probably have chalked this up to "talk shit, get hit".

On the flipside of this, I also don't think Chris Rock is some sort of gigantic insensitive asshole either. He made a bad joke, but like that happens to the best of comedians.

Honestly this will probably be something everyone else is harping on long after the two of them have patched things up.
Also this completely. It was definitely wrong of Will. But I think people are overreacting. Chris Rock's joke was bad, but I feel it was mostly a harmless joke.
