I threw myself off a cliff after invading all 3 times and it advanced his quest line. He never specifies that you need to be successful

That said, I have a weird love hate relationship with invaders. On the one hand, I think it's an interesting system and I'm glad they've kept it around. On the other hand, I've never felt too much empathy for the complaints of invaders when no one asked you to come into their world. Duels are different, but in an invasion, there are no rules and each side has one singular goal: eliminate the other person by any means necessary, gank squad included

I do worry sometimes that the odds are too far in the favor of hosts now, and that people will be discouraged entirely from invading, and that would be shitty imo
