They did a good job of making him childlike

I get why he's annoying and I could've dismissed it if the movie didn't put so much screen time with him and the gangsters (who are easily the worst part of the film).

I don't think they did

That was bad english on my end. What I mean to say was that Hugh Jackman and Dev Patel (the two best parts about the movie imo) were heavily under utilized. Hugh Jackman was just a 1 dimensional villain and Dev Patel was sidelined a lot in the film even though marketing made it look like he was going to be more involved with the film. The movie absolutely wanted to you empathize with the 2 gangsters by the end, which is hard when they did nothing redeemable throughout the entire film (well maybe except the girl, but she was both a bad actress and a shitty character).

This movie had a really great premise and there could've been a lot of potential for awesome things, I just disliked the direction it went with it. It might also be because I enjoyed District 9 a lot and was expecting the same amount of love and refinement that came with that film.

Mediocre Stephen Chow wannabee that tries to satirize a genre that's already hyper satirized with comedy aimed at elementary children. Almost every joke stays just a little too long, just to make sure everyone's got it. It's half a level above Paul Blart.

I think the Movie is at its best when it does the Meta humor and not when it's being too overly silly.
