I found myself in Caelid before the castle and realized "Yeah this is obviously a later area" when I fought two pumpkin heads and got two shotted. And then you can just warp back to a more familiar location. Elden Ring is the least punishing Souls game by far, often than not you directly respawn at the boss wall.
