Who knows what he did to get elected from the start. This isn't a surprise but I don't think your reasoning here is why. Hillary literally did run twice with the first being in 2008. Biden ran three times before winning (but the first was pretty removed from the second). Romney ran twice before becoming nominee. Bernie ran twice.
