Speaking as someone who has gone through the roommate situation, it does. Having your food in a location that separate from the main living quarters means that there are less chances for someone to eat something that isn't theirs. Outside of your roommate, there are also his/her friends who might raid the fridge to eat something and they don't always ask who it belongs to.

Plus its nice to have a cold drink near your bed during the nights.
As long as your door is locked.
