I *think* I get what they meant.

People kind of assumed war in Europe between nations with actual militaries fighting in the field was kind of dated for 21st century. With 4 digit soldier death counts in days.

I mean it has been utter insanity from the Russians this entire time.

Meanwhile there has been conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan on and off for decades and it's well assumed that conflict will continue into the future.

But christ on a bike calling the nations "civilized" and acting like the Middle East is just an empty desert with some huts is fucked up.
