I haven't watched TC's panel, but I also can't really imagine needing a panel to learn mahjong either. I know people meme about how long the tutorial for it is in Yakuza and the like, but you could probably distill that to two pages of what tiles mean what (suits, winds, dragons) and the general idea of hands (terminals, flushes, closed vs. open vs. riichi, etc.) and go from there.

My mahjong experience started with Saki (for others, it may have been Akagi), then my actual hands-on playtime was with 2-player h-games. Not so coincidentally, a 2-player Saki fangame went up around the time the first season aired, though hentai mahjong is a fairly common genre and I also happened to pick up a VN called Princess Brave, spinoff to Princess Bride (yes, the one with the super-catchy OP by KOTOKO).

I eventually moved onto real mahjong through Tenhou, though nowadays, I'm on Mahjong Soul.

Check out Mahjong Soul if you want to give it a try. It's free and they have a tutorial in there as well. Also you can play against bots so you don't have to stare down real people.

Worth noting is that there's going to be a Kaguya-sama collab soon-ish. Maybe second week of March or so.

Also worth noting is that Mahjong Soul gacha is absolute shit for F2P and rerolling isn't really an option either.
