I know there are use cases for some of it (especially in computer science), but so much of the research is just so ridiculously theoretical and seems to boil down to "let's solve this super complicated puzzle and maybe somebody will be able to do something with the solution someday." It's weird. I was told I needed algebra for construction. While my boss was trying to figure out numbers I just climbed ladder and measured it --- Cid- "looks like that overgrown lobster just got served!" Bartz-"with cheese biscuts AND mashed potatoes!" ...
