How can it equal one? If one times one equals one that means that two is of no value because one times itself has no effect. One times one equals two because the square root of four is two, so what's the square root of two? Should be one, but we're told its two, and that cannot be.

The square root of two is 1.4...

1.4 is the square root of 1.96.

Good thing I wrote 1.4..., the ellipsis indicating that I was cutting off digits

But you weren't cutting off 4s solely and you also did not go far enough to actually get close to the real number.

I never indicated I was cutting off fours solely. It's just a weakness of typing systems that I can't make the dots above the relevant digits.

Technically, I was displaying the exact number in a 'shortened' form, so saying I wasn't close enough is kinda bull <_<

You should put enough of the number where you should get at least .99 with a repeating decimal. I mean 1.96 is way off of 2. You still got 1.97, 1.98, AND 1.99.

Put 1.4 x 1.4 into calculator and then put 1.414213562373095 x 1.414213562373095 into it.
