KrustyTheClown 09/12/17 10:19:26 AM #53: | Howl posted... Dad did you draw dicks on my friends face? Difference being that I'm comparing acts of racism to other acts of racism, not any and every problem to acts of racism. Don't let cartoons do your thinking for you. Axiom posted... So fucking true. I've seen this excuse so many times on here it's pathetic. Of course if the same people that use it as an excuse saw a minority say the same thing they wouldn't give them any leeway whatsoever Yep. They can look at the weight of institutionalized racism, scoff at it, dismiss it, etc. but anything the other way, they lose their minds. 27_Sandman_40 posted... did he literally just say "boo hoo" to a bunch of non-whites attacking a white person with violence simply for being born into the wrong neighborhood and skin? Actually, I said "boo fucking hoo." It's a negligible instance of racism, a drop in the bucket compared to what non-whites have endured at the hands of whites. I'm not entirely unsympathetic; I'm sure that is an awful thing to experience but bringing that up and expecting it to mean anything in the overall discussion of racism is like bringing a pocket knife to a nuclear standoff. It just doesn't mean anything. GregShmedley posted... Yup. I don't think you're getting your turn or that it's fair play or that you deserved it. I don't think you're a racist, I don't know or care about you, but I do know that a lot of people use that line of thinking to explain why they are racist. If you're not one of them, good for you. You're better than most and likely an exception. No, my point is that I just don't care that it happened to you in the context of general discussion about racism. Your experience and any one like it is trivial. That isn't to say that I like it or that I condone it. I generally abhor violence and don't think anyone should be subject to that kind of thing. I also do not wish to prolong it because those kinds of environments are usually a result of systemic racism that is affecting more minorities in more significant ways than the people having problems because they don't fit in. --- 1, 2, 3, and to the 4. ...
