Tomb Raider, Metroid, and Leisure Suit Larry weren't exceptional examples, what are you on? They're far more prominent than obscure Japanese games that no one plays. Even if we include them, the sexualization was still greater in the olden times because in those Japanese games you usually get to at least play as them while the women are just objects in the old days.
