You know how conservatives are always asking why anyone would need an education? This is why. The end of the Islamic golden age has nothing to do with some non-existent turn against science. It was brought on by the Mongol invasions, the sack of Baghdad and the destruction of the House of Wisdom. Science, literature, architecture, etc all flourished under Ottoman rule for hundreds of years.
