Antifar posted...a federal rule designed to require companies to better coordinate and inform first responders about the toxic compounds at chemical plants Some plants produce so many compounds that some of them are not even recognized as discovered species, are short-lived, are so dilute that extracting them would prove difficult, and that haven't been studied. It is necessary to ensure that both there is an adequate level of safety as well as ensure insuring profitability for American chemical producers. That is the goal of an entire branch of chemical engineering referred to as PSM. I can tell you the regulations are stronger here in the US than in any other first world country I have been to.
