The more people are nice to them and rationalize them, the less likely they are to understand they have serious personality flaws. Does alienating them run the risk of alienating them further? Yes absolutely. But no amount of coddling will fix this special kind of a trainwreck, deluded personality. I say this as someone who posted similarly angsty things like this when I was at peak singledom in college.
