In the book they go into the sewers and they all have sex with the girl in an attempt to basically be adults assuming IT would leave them alone after that. The girl even makes comments about one of the boys not having any hair down there suggesting prepubescence. Keep in mind that King by his own admission was "coked out of his mind" when he wrote IT.
