how does the existence of a supposedly loving god make sense when extremely cruel and fucked up shit occurs all the time in the world

If TC wouldn't mind me butting in here...

Here's how this is logically explained:

The primary quality that defines God is love. The Bible even says "God is Love". He is the embodiment of love.

God created us to love Him. With love must also come free will. God can't FORCE us to genuinely love Him. That would be a paradox.

TLDR: God created us to love him. We can't love without free will. Free will of mankind causes all kinds of messed up things to happen. Man's disobedience to God is why evil exists.

Since God allowed us free will, we can do things that are wrong. God is just, and will punish people for doing wrong. Perhaps not immediately, but in time. That is one reason why "fucked up shit" happens.

Aside from "fucked up shit" being punishment from God, you've also got things that God really didn't have anything to do with. Sometimes things just happen, because of free will and other various things. God has a grand plan designed and laid out for the world, but I'm not convinced he's in control of every tiny detail at all times. He set up the universe and the laws within it, and occasionally gives the world a nudge here and there in the direction he wants it to go.

so killing innocent kids slowly is a just and fair punishment to who exactly
