Is it just the rise of social media giving more people voices?

Basically it used to be that people mostly used actual interaction with real humans in person to develop a worldview. We had a sense of humanity that we could see in one another. TV allowed some shit to get through the filter, but for the most part things were fine. Then as the internet got bigger and bigger, we didn't have to look each other in the eyes anymore as we spread idiotic shit and hatred, and instead of getting corrected by people we loved and respected, we could protect ourselves from reality by finding like-minded individuals who were just as stupid as us. Once we created our own little bubbles, we saw only the information we wanted to see, and believed it instantly regardless of the source.

To blame it on Trayvon or Ferguson isn't realistic. Things started getting "worse" because of the internet. And it's not likely to get better anytime soon.
