Behavioral specialists have always been the "gatekeepers" with respect to these surgeries. It's a fallacy to presume society is ignoring this and letting people walk into a clinic like a McDonald's and walk out with a surgery. Yes, some people end up regretting surgery, but they were informed of limitations and had a long time to manage expectations prior to getting the green light for the procedure.
