this is at my mom's house. long story short, we had to tear out the front corner of the house and rebuild the support structure. the sole plates at the bottom were especially bad and disintegrated when we touched them

as you can see in the below picture, the mason who did the brick facade was probably drunk. there's a lot of mortar slop. more importantly, he didn't leave weep holes for moisture to drain out, so the sole plates had been collecting water for 50+ years

besides the water damage, the supporting studs were home to termites once upon a time. here's a cross section of one of the less damaged boards:

got a lot of work ahead of me the next couple days. I've already rebuilt the wall structure and put up new foam board and insulation, and tomorrow I have to run wiring, put up new drywall and patch all the other stuff I damaged during the demo. then after that comes paint and finishing touches
