okay i finished the movie

it's really bad in basically every possible way. the writers of this movie basically did not understand the characters they were trying to portray and certainly did not know how to execute them properly.

like the public interview L gives where he announces he coming after Kira is possibly one of my favourite scenes in all of anime, and they did it in this movie. But they completely missed why it was such a great scene. In the anime, L comes on screen and challenges Kira to kill him. Kira obliges and kills him. L reveals this to be a trick and the guy Kira killed was a test to see if he could kill him. L discovers that Kira can kill someone upon first seeing them and learning their name... and also that Kira is in the region that this was broadcasted to since this wasn't sent out worldwide. He announces he will catch Kira, and he challenges Kira to kill him again (with his face hidden and through a voice modulator). When it doesn't happen, he ends the interview.

In the movie, he physically appears and announces he will catch Kira and challenges Kira to kill him. When it doesn't happen, he ends the interview.

The reason this was such a gripping and fun scene was because L actually outwitted Kira. Kira fell right into his trap, and L gained information because of it. He calls Kira out and declares he'll catch him, but that's not the heart of the scene. The movie just does that part and thinks that it's accomplished something. But it doesn't. It's empty. In fact, it's stupid, since L is putting himself at risk for no reason and gains no information by appearing like he does in the movie.

It's okay for an adaptation like this to not accomplish the same things that the original might have... but it needs to accomplish SOMETHING. This just took out the heart of a scene and left it there was a hollow shell. Which basically summarizes everything else this movie did.
