At most from the Chicago side, I've heard many say that our pizza is better than the rest, but not that regional variants can't exist. For New Yorkers, they bitch and moan at the notion that other areas have the gall to have different styles of pizza. Yes, this is the other thing I wanted to say. I think most people don't understand the point of Chicago style pizza (or hot dogs for that matter). It's not about trying to be better than New York. It's about making something that's good, but different enough that you don't need to compare the two. New Yorkers really get mad about people liking any other pizza better than New York pizza.
