There's an interesting study tho from the JFK Nixon debate. People who listened via radio felt it was much closer in terms of who won the debate. People who watched it via TV, the first ever televised debate, overwhelmingly picked JFK. JFKs looks v Nixon's awkwardness, constant sweating etc. JFK came through as much more charismatic when watching.

TV debates definitely changed the game re: charisma for election cycles.
