You have been watching a different show than the rest of us then... Shit hasn't made sense in a while. Half the cast are time travelers at this point... I mean realistic in the sense that things tend to obey the rules of the world the show is in and the characters are only able to react realistically to the predicaments they're put in. so in my ned stark example, if this was any other show, someone would have saved Ned at the last minute, but in GoT the guy was in an inescapable situation and did not escape. Obviously you can use a little movie magic and save people at the last minute, but if you over-use it the show starts to get cheesy. a good example of that for me is when Jaime Lannister is charging towards Daenarys to kill her, and the dragon stares straight at him and begins to blow fire, but just at the last second Bronn pushes them both into a lake and they swim to safety. Sure it makes for a scene that looks very cool visually, but Bronn coming In The Nick of Time and the show ignoring how they're both in full plate armor swimming to safety just comes across as cheap writing tbh.
