.22 is rimfire, which is less than reliable, so that is not really acceptable for SD.

there are people that say .380acp is the smallest the use for SD, and there are people that say 9mm is the smallest.

a 9mm 147gr hollow point is not going to be that much more effective than a .45 acp 185-230gr hollow point, when put in the right spot, and you usually get 1.5x the ammo capacity or more with 9mm over .45 (or a much more compact gun), and the shootability of 9mm makes sure you CAN hit the right spot.

I'm not denying that .45 acp is a good caliber, but I'm simply saying stating that 9mm isn't a good defense caliber while going on about how good .45acp is foolish. If it is gonna take more than one shot with a 9mm to put someone down, a .45acp placed in the same spot is still gonna take more than one shot, like 99% of the time.
