That's just how it works (most men place a BIG priority on a woman's physical beauty...her youth). So an older woman has less incentive to bother looking like a beauty queen when most attractive guys are no longer checking her out anyway. In addition, basic biology can lead to an aging woman to adopt different choices in appearance. Just like men, many women also begin to have receding hair lines and decreased number of follicles. So shorter hair styles can still provide volume or style for an older woman with naturally thinning hair. Shorter hairstyles also reduce the weight burden on an woman's neck.
