Why are people bending over backwards to try and make Robert E. Lee comparable to "any historical figure"? He literally was a leader of a secession that fought to be able to keep owning slaves. That's why he's famous. The Founding Fathers were most likely all horrible people in some way, yes, people acknowledge that. Raising a statue of the founder of your country is not the same as raising a statue of the symbol for the fight slave ownership to spite minorities.

You are answering your own question. Here, I'll copy and paste it for you:

"The Founding Fathers were most likely all horrible people in some way, yes, people acknowledge that."

The biggest reason why people remove monuments, books and other reminders of the past is because they are offensive. All of these historic figures committed various crimes against humanity, and saying this guy is Ok but that guy is not is nothing more than temperamental cherry picking. I'm not saying to destroy these artifacts. I'm saying maybe it would be best to remove them all, keep them in a museum, and then let's all move on with our lives.
