| eston 08/17/17 3:11:45 PM #40: | I don't really get the whole "it reminds us of our dark past" argument. That isn't why we build statues. We don't put up a monument to say "look how terrible this guy was." Statues are for honoring people, and these statues depict their subjects as heroes. It's a large part of why some people still view them as heroes. Taking them down isn't going to fix our culture, but recognizing that they shouldn't have been erected is a step in the right direction. --- ... Copied to Clipboard! |
