it's kind of silly tbh, a symbolic gesture that ultimately doesnt mean anything. removing a confederate statue will not somehow remove racism or the parts of america's history that we don't like.

Also, when something enters into antiquity, like the Civil War, people start to take bits and pieces from it that they like and brush the rest under the rug. So I think for a lot of people this is about southern heritage because they just choose to gloss over the slavery aspect and things like that and choose to, say, focus on the "brother killing brother" aspect.

that being said, if a statue has become a shrine for neo nazis or something it's time to take it down
