This is the key point. Monuments that truly reckoned with the Civil War might highlight emancipation, or the thousands of Southerners who fought for the Union. There's a reason the South is dotted instead with marble confederates, and it's not about preserving history.

The same sort of movement as the one in the 50's that got "under God" shoehorned into the pledge?
