Putting them up in the first place was done in order to whitewash the reasons for the civil war and attribute the conflict to reasons that weren't true at the time but merely made up after the fact. And they were also put up as a symbol of racial intimidation in order to remind the now freed slaves of their place in the post-civil war south while others were erected during the height of the Civil Rights movement for the very same reason. But you already know this cause you've been told it in previous topics. So you're either you're trolling or merely consider paint chips a delicacy.
