Quite a twist, the boxing commission have said they'll sanction it as a one off experiment.

This gives McGregor a tiny chance, as it'll give him the ability to be able to deliver that one lucky knockout punch, which would have been next to impossible to deliver the power with regular sized boxing gloves (if he was to get an opening against Mayweather, that is!).

Eh, thicker gloves allow for more powerful blows, as you take less damage to the hands, you can punch with more force without breaking your hands.

Trust me when I say MMA fighters do not need to hold back on their punches in a fight.

Heavier gloves always produce less kinetic impulse at contact. There is a middle ground between padding and power, and coincidentally it is right around 4-6 ounces. Also to note, a lot of extra weight for boxing gloves comes because the gloves have excess padding and material around non-significant parts of the hand like the thumb and back wrist.
