The Cave of Wonders is just that: a treasure-filled cavern. I think KH styled it as Tiger Head even. Just a minor nitpick I suppose. I'll change it next contest. http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Cave_of_Wonders Cave of Wonders is designated as a character. The head is the entrance; it has full knowledge and control of its innards and is able to effect change inside of itself. The insides can conform and be manipulated as if it is a shape-changer, much like the sandy dune that is just a dormant form of the cave's head.
