I don't know about any of this conspiracy s***, but the reason why hydrogen cars never took off is because you can't drive down to the nearest corner on the street and fill your car up with hydrogen.

That's literally the only reason.

It's a more involved reason than it sounds like, though. Where do you get hydrogen and oxygen to put in stations in the first place? Generally you split it from water, which just reraises the question of how you generate clean energy. It's true that you could do it with hydro or solar, which you can't do with a gasoline car, but realistically it's also going to happen with coal or gas.
