He's gone belly up on like four major ventures (not like "well, let's throw some ideas to the wall and see what sticks" small market stuff, talking things that actually had a substantial amount of investment made that ended up flat broke by the end). His most noteworthy claims to fame before his presidency were his tv shows that put the spotlight on poor performers and failures in the workforce. Many of his businesses have gone belly up, and his Atlantic City casinos are in trouble.
