Once we get to the idea of "improving", things become tricky. I mean... improve what? As long as we have the bare minimum necessities covered, it's then just a matter of entertaining yourself until you die. Unless you get entertainment out of slaving away and fantasizing about some future that you don't exist in yet, and possibly won't at all, and definitely will not after a certain amount of time, then life really starts to suck at this point.

I'd rather entertain myself by taking multiple vacations each year and several weekend getaways while sparing no expense versus sitting around in some dumpy apartment playing video games on my days off from work eating crappy food because "I have the bare necessities". Do you smoke a lot of pot? (Just curious).

Saving is good. Regardless of it's eventual intended use, circumstances could change and it's still your money and yours to spend when you choose to spend it.

Most people who are making decent money do invest and save, so it's more about gaining a successful career and having money to save and invest in the first place. Investing and saving literally makes your money work for you. Once you have enough of it, you can be quite comfortable without having to work at all, or at the least, very little.
