Not kanji's fault that nazis took that symbol. Swastika is not based on the Kanji, it's actually based on Sowilo/Sigel, the Norse/Anglo-Saxon Rune that represents the sun. I just looked up the sigel and it looks more like the SS symbol than a swastika. It's literally two Sawilo Runes put together. Considering the Nazis vehementally ambraced the idea that they were the descendants of the Vikings and openly embraced their Saxon heritage, it's pretty safe to assume that was the purpose. Also, considering that Hitler and most of his party didn't go to Japan before the rise of the party, I think it's a safe bet. But the swastika isn't strictly a Japanese thing. It's been appearing pretty much everywhere since the beginning of time.
